12.11.2025 – Cooperation with Lightyears Solar, New Zealand.
SolarKapital has entered a strategic cooperation with Lightyears Solar (https://www.lightyearssolar.co.nz) from Auckland, New Zealand. As part of this cooperation, Lightyears Solar has welcomed Dr. Andreas Leimbach, sole shareholder and Managing Director of SolarKapital GmbH, to its advisory board and as an investor into the company.
Lightyears Solar is a leading solar corporation in New Zealand that has already been active for more than six years. Lightyears Solar builds high quality community-scale solar PV farms on both the South and the North Island. Strategically, it operates both as a service provider (development, EPC, O&M) and as an independent power producer. The existing operating portfolio consists of three solar PV farms with a total of eight MWp, with additional 19 MWp under construction and 200 MWp in the development stage. Lightyears Solar works with landowners across New Zealand to realise the full potential of their land as a home for renewable energy and builds PV solar farms where they are needed most within local communities. The installations are generally designed to integrate seamlessly with existing agriculture.
“Dr Leimbach’s appointment to the Lightyears advisory board underscores our commitment to further expanding the PV portfolio of grid-connected solar farms across New Zealand over the coming years. His deep knowledge of utility-scale solar developments in Europe will provide valuable insights and guidance for this growth” comments Matt Shanks, Managing Director and co-founder of Lightyears Solar. “We’re looking forward to leveraging his experience and leadership as we contribute to New Zealand’s transition to sustainable energy solutions” adds Sean Tobin, also Managing Director and co-founder of Lightyears Solar. Andreas Leimbach says “the solar market in New Zealand has tremendous potential and I am looking forward to participate in the realization of it together with the entire team of Lightyears Solar”.
